Favorite Restaurants

   Restaurants located on the resort:

  • Bovin - New steakhouse located Simpson Bay Resort, is higher priced but easy based on location.
  • Patrona - Mexican restaurant located at Simpson Bay Resort, Justen recommends the Tomahawk pork chop.  Again ease of location can't be beat.
  • Isola - Good pizza, Italian options right at the resort, highly recommend for people looking to get to go Pizza.  Is on the pricer side of things.
  • Replay Sports Bar - Great sports bar on the bottom floor of the resort, tons of games, good beer & wings.

    Walking Distance to Simpson Bay Resort:

  • Buccaneer - Newly opened 3 minute down the hill of the resort.  Great casual beach bar with good ribs.
  • Shiv Shakti - One of our favorite casual restaurants on the island, best Indian food we have had.  No frills but good food.  Located 3 minute walk from Simpson Bay.
  • Greenhouse - One of Justen's favorites for happy hour and to play Pool.  Located 3 minute walk down the hill and they have 2 for 1 Happy Hour 11am-7pm.  Also has a good bang bang shrimp.  Another very casual option.
  • Lee's - Local Fish roadside restaurant, located at the bottom of the hill on the way to Simpson Bay Resort.  Well known fish and ribs restaurant.
  • Captain D's Rib Shack - BBQ roadside grill located the parking lot next to Roxxy (few minute walk from the resort).  Quality Caribbean food at affordable costs, no ambience, just picknic tables & good food.  Visited last year by John Legend & Chrissy Teigen.
  • Avantika - Located on the second floor building - Walk down the hill of Simpson Bay towards the main road and take a left, you will see it on the right side, large white building.  No Ambience but awesome Thai food.  One of our favorites.
  • Pizza Italy - Walk down the hill of Simpson Bay towards the main road and take a right, you will see Pizza Italy on the left.
  • Yacht Club - Walk down the hill of Simpson Bay towards the main road and take a left, you will see it right before the bridge on the right.  Best time to visit Yacht Club is breakfast at 8:30am to see the bridge opening and boats leave or 5pm to evening bridge open and boats return.  Happy hour every night.  Recommend Wednesday night for those who are around to see the golfers back from Anguilla.  They have good appetizers but don't recommend a full meal.
  • Vesna Taverna - Located right past Yacht Club over the bridge.  Another one of our favorites for breakfast or dinner.  Great fish meals at affordable cost plus great chocolate mouse for dessert.  Tell Vesna Mary-Beth sent you :)  We do recommend booking ahead on Facebook Messenger as the restaurant is small and does fill up.

  • La Sucriere - AMAZING French bakery opened every morning.  Walk down the hill of Simpson Bay towards the main road and take a right, you will see Sucriere on the left.
  • Top Carrot - A health food spot that is vegan friendly and has amazing juices and smoothies. Walk down the hill of Simpson Bay towards the main road and take a right, you will see Top Carrot behind Pizza Italy on the left.
  • Reveil Matin SXM - Best Breakfast spot on the island hands down.  Walk down the hill of Simpson Bay towards the main road and take a right, you will see Reveil on the left.  Menu is huge and has something for everyone, portions are very large.  Highly recommend the Rolex Johnny Cake Sandwich, its Justen's personal favorite.


    Simpson Bay Longer Walk or Quick Taxi:
  • Sal N Pepe - Fancy Italian Restaurant located on the marina, highly recommend reservations.  Food is fabulous but it is pricey.
  • Beirut - Great Lebanese Casual Food, good salads, one of Marci's favorites.  No Ambience as located roadside but good for those craving Lebanese cuisine.

    Dutch Side Maho:
    If you are here for a week we highly recommend checking out Maho downtown area.  It comes alive at night with casinos, nightclubs, restaurants, and a few shops. 
  • Alina - Best Sushi experience on the island.  Highly recommend a reservation.  One of Justen's must visits if you like Asian Fusion cuisine.  Pricey but worth it.
  • Jax - Traditional steakhouse, good service and cocktails.  Similar to a traditional steakhouse in cities back home.

  • Bamboo House SXM - Reservations are required, new restaurant built last year.  Must taxi here, this is a wow factor for the view.  Cocktails are great.  Asian Fusion.  Keep in mind though there is nothing around it so you will taxi to/from for dinner!
  • Karakter - Beach Bar on Simpson Bay Beach (on same beach where MB & Jim live).  Food is average but great beach location, good drinks and for dinner there is live music.

Highly recommend for everyone's safe to please stay away from the downtown Philipsburg area in the evenings!!

 

    Worth the Drive for a French Culinary Experience - 

Marigot

Ô Plongeoir - This is one of our favorites for casual french cuisine.  Service is great and owners are Justen's friends from fishing.  The desserts are all amazing as is the food.  Very reasonably priced and great menu of fish, meats, salads, etc.  Also a good spot to stop for lunch if you are renting a car and adventuring around the island.

Tropicana - Located on the marina for high end french cuisine.  Everything on the menu is good, highly recommend to book ahead of time.  Lunch is as good as dinner!

Grand Case

If you have never been to Grand Case, highly recommend exploring for one night.  Taxi will be pricey round-trip but worth the experience.  Known as culinary capital of the Caribbean!

La Cottage - Located roadside but the food is incredible.  Traditional French cuisine.  Highly recommend.

Ocean 82  - Another amazing French restaurant but slightly fancier vibe.  Also located on the water.  Great to celebrate special occasion or just enjoy fine dining.  Still reasonably priced as all French side restaurants are reasonable for the quality you get.

L'Auberge Gourmande - Voted for years as best restaurant in SXM.  Located roadside but ambience within the restaurant is pretty.  Sister restaurant of Ocean 82.  

Lolo's - Locally owned, locally operated casual bbq huts.  The lolo's are made up of 4-5 small family run bbq joints that serve local food.  Affordable pricing, cash only.  Definitely an experience if you have never been.  Great dock to watch sunset and waterfront views.  You can easily wear your bathing suit in these restaurants.  They are open for lunch also.

 

Favorite Bars

No Where Special - Open Wed to Sunday, live music every night 8:00pm-11:30pm - Great spot in Simpson Bay for music and drinks!  Right next to Yacht Club.

Yacht Club, Simpson Bay

Dinghy Dock | Sports & Beer - Good spot for Craft Beer and Sport.  About a 5 minute taxi from the hotel.  

District 721 - Nightclub/Lounge Scene

Mimosas - For those venturing to Maho for dinner this is a great spot above Alina for an evening cocktail.

Moon Bar - This is a new nightclub located on the roof of the main building in Maho.  Open air, outdoor Club, does not getting going until late, opens around 10pm.

Driftwood - Best place to watch airplanes land, try one of their famous rum punches.

 

Red Piano - This bar is located right at the Simpson Bar resort with a live piano player Susa and guitar player Cliff.  They are great friends of ours and come for one month a year and we are lucky enough it is during the wedding celebration.  Plus the martinis are great.  This is Adults-Only, smoking is allowed inside but majority of tourists do smoke outside. There is a pool table in the back.

Tips 

  • Credit cards are accepted at most of the above restaurants/bars.  Taxis are CASH Only.
  • No Uber available, you can ask most restaurants, bars or hotels to call a taxi for you.  Will take 15-20 minutes.  Only take a taxi that says Taxi on the license plate or a Bus that will have a B license plate.  There are many gypsy taxis that we recommend staying away from.  All taxis at the airport will be approved companies!
  • On the Dutch side restaurant bills might include a service charge of 15%, this is heavily controversial on the island on whether or not this is given to the staff as a tip.  If you believe the server went over and above we recommend leaving a little extra.  The service charge is supposed to be the tip.
  • Be smart in the evenings, we recommend outside the resort to walk in groups.  Use common sense and do NOT walk across the beaches past 10pm, stick to the main roads!
  • Apply, apply and reapply for sunscreen!  It's easy to buy at every corner store including both stores next to the resort.
